Raneir with Cootharinga North Queensland General Manager David Reeson

BM Director Raneir Melick hosted his final event as Chair of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) Townsville chapter in November.

The end of year dinner focussed on governance in the sports arena and collected present donations to support the great therapy work undertaken by Cootharinga North Queensland.

Townsville’s AICD chapter has a big following – almost 300 members – and provides important information, professional development opportunities, and hosts events throughout the year for directors, business leaders and members of the broader community.

Raneir is stepping down from his AICD Townsville role after serving the maximum allowable nine years on the Committee, including as Chair since 2016. Congratulations Raneir on a great event, a fantastic outcome for the community, and great service to the AICD organisation!

In November, we were pleased to take part in Townsville Enterprise’s “STEAM in the Regions” forum, an initiative to bring together industry, educators and researchers to help plan the future of North Queensland’s workforce.

We’re passionate about inspiring young people into the STEAM fields and showcasing the exciting career opportunities in our industry. Our Senior Registered Surveyor Stephen Jess took part in a panel discussion on partnerships between industry and schools. Stephen volunteers with the CSIRO’s STEM Professionals in Schools programme, working with teachers and Townsville primary school students to inspire a passion for STEM and consider a STEM-related career.

Congratulations to Townsville Enterprise on this fantastic initiative!

Life Education Townsville launched their new van in Townsville in November, a project we were proud to support.

Life Education visits schools across North Queensland, using their van and mascot Healthy Harold to teach primary school students about health, wellbeing and safety. Our team worked with Life Education to take their ideas for the pod on the new vehicle and turn them into CAD drawings for the builders.

We were pleased to be able to play our part in helping Life Education continue their great work with the next generation of Townsville kids.
