In 2020, the Brazier Motti team grew with some fantastic new additions to support us as we create opportunities for our clients in Northern Australia.

We’d like introduce our new our new Company Accountant Kylie and our new Administration Officer Emma.

Kylie brings over 10 years of local public practice accounting experience to our team. She is a Certified Practicing Accountant and has a Bachelor of Business majoring in Accounting and Economics. Kylie also applies her professional skills to give back to the North Queensland community as the Treasurer at Shed 3, a local not-for-profit creating opportunities for young people in Townsville.

Our new Administration Officer Emma is a recent James Cook University graduate with a Bachelor of Planning. She’s now begun her journey towards becoming a Town Planner. Emma is also an active part of our community, helping care for and rehome abandoned pets with Townsville as a volunteer for Townsville Foster and Rehoming Animals.

We’re very pleased to have welcomed Kylie and Emma to the BM team in 2020 and look forward to their continuing contributions to support our clients.

Initial signs are positive for Townsville’s property market, which is experiencing a bounce following the impact of COVID-19. Government first home builders’ grants have led to a surge in demand for new homes with developers around the city reporting significant increases in demand.

The promising short-term boost has come as demographers are forecasting that COVID-19 might increase a trend in population shift to regional Australia. It’s anticipated that regional cities could benefit from economic and community changes resulting from the pandemic, including remote work arrangements becoming more popular, domestic manufacturing growing, and more people looking for less densely populated areas.

This may prove to be accelerating an existing trend, with the Regional Australia Institute releasing a report in June finding that contrary to expectations, regional areas had a net gain in population from the capital cities between 2011 and 2016. The report found the key drivers for movement to regional areas were mining employment opportunities, affordability, and lifestyle.

With a great lifestyle and access to key economic drivers including agriculture, mining and tourism, North and Far North Queensland is ready to play its part.

Raneir with Cootharinga North Queensland General Manager David Reeson

BM Director Raneir Melick hosted his final event as Chair of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) Townsville chapter in November.

The end of year dinner focussed on governance in the sports arena and collected present donations to support the great therapy work undertaken by Cootharinga North Queensland.

Townsville’s AICD chapter has a big following – almost 300 members – and provides important information, professional development opportunities, and hosts events throughout the year for directors, business leaders and members of the broader community.

Raneir is stepping down from his AICD Townsville role after serving the maximum allowable nine years on the Committee, including as Chair since 2016. Congratulations Raneir on a great event, a fantastic outcome for the community, and great service to the AICD organisation!
